Shri Kamal P. Patnaik is a Senior Program Director at CAFRAL and he is currently involved in designing, directing and conducting risk-focused training programs for the senior bank executives. Prior to joining the CAFRAL, he was the Regional Director for Telangana at Hyderabad. He was also the Regional Director for J&K and Ladakh and also headed the RBI’s Kochi office. During his professional career spanning over three decades, transformative changes were brought about in the areas of banking supervision, payment systems, government-banking operations and digital financial inclusion. He also served as the RBI Nominee Director on the Board of a Public Sector Bank (2021-24) and helped in its turnaround. As a former Member of Faculty (MoF) at the Bankers’ Training College (2005-08), he had conducted several off-site training programs in India and abroad in the areas of credit and market risk management. He was deputed to Central bank of Oman at Muscat and helped in successful implementation of Basel-II capital guidelines in Oman. As a Principal Inspecting Officer (PIO) to major Indian and foreign banks, he has vast experience in the areas of fraud, financial crimes and operational risks faced by Indian banks. His deep expertise as a bank-examiner as well as a bank-board director, helps him to dissect the dilemmas of corporate governance faced by the Indian financial institutions. In his official capacity, he has travelled to several countries and participated in seminars and workshops conducted by Federal Reserve System (Washington DC), Federal Reserve Bank (New York); European Central Bank (Frankfurt); Banque de France (Paris) and IMF (Singapore). He holds a Post-Graduate degree in Political Science and International Relations. He is a Certified Associate of Indian Institute of Bankers and a Life Member of Indian Institute of Banking & Finance. He also holds an International Certification in Banking Risk and Regulation (ICBRR) from Global Association of Risk Professional (GARP), USA. He enjoys playing badminton and football during his free time.
