Risk management has assumed great importance in recent times because of the sharp deterioration in the asset quality of banks. External conditions like the state of the economy, coupled with deficiencies in risk management practices, have contributed to this asset quality stress.Public Sector Banks (PSBs) have taken on significant exposure to certain sectors, especially the infrastructure sector, and due to a combination of adverse internal and external factors, this has exposed them to higher levels of stress. The recent decision by the Government to link capital infusion in PSBs to performance has also added pressure on them in terms of capital planning and maintenance. The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Hasmukh Adhia, Secretary, Department of Financial Services.
The objective of the seminar is to provide a platform for participants to discuss best practices in risk management, recent developments in regulation, existing risk capabilities and capacities, and to sensitise them to their roles and responsibilities in managing risk.
